The PA Super Bowl
The Turnpike Super Bowl
Steagles Reunion Tour
Yo! vs. Yoi!
etc…
I’m pulling for it. The great battle for Commonwealth supremacy would be amazing; the two weeks of media frenzy and national attention descending upon the great Keystone State almost seems gluttonous in the tough economic times we’re facing. Ah well…if it happens Tampa Bay will get the lion’s share of the boost.
It’s just too bad the game couldn’t be rescheduled for Happy Valley.
The speculation is getting crazy (here are the links to prove it)…
- like this roughly tossed together website polling the favorite of Penn’s teams.
- The Governor is betting with himself. However, the former mayor won’t be neutral. If only Lynn Swann had beaten the Governor.
- Some gambling speculation, please ignore the big goofy guy in the picture.
- A CBS message board on the topic has drawn out a quite intelligent Cowboys fan to weigh in. He has some strong feelings about Philly and some poor spelling elsewhere.
- York, PA weighs in…though they seem to be content with the consolation prize “the I-95 Bowl”
- The Post-Gazette gets into the pre-speculation as PA dreams of a Super match-up…
The third time could very well be the charm, but let’s not forget that the previous 2 chances at this PA Super Bowl thing didn’t turn out too hot. Following the 2001 season, both the Steelers and Eagles reach their respective title games…both failed to advance. The Eagles lost to the Rams 29-24, while the Steelers lost to the “enhanced” Patriots 24-17. The opportunity arose again after the 2004 season with the Eagles advancing this time by defeating the Falcons, 27-10. The Steelers, meanwhile, lost 41-27 to the Patriots giving Roethlisberger his first career NFL loss.
But…enough of that, there’s a game to play on Sunday that involves a dirtier more disease ridden bird. Moving on…
