One of the things I’ve always been enjoyed about sports are the unique names that many players have. For some reason, it has seemed that the Steelers have had some pretty colorful names adorning their rosters over the years. Therefore, the following is a compilation of the All-Time “name” team.
The critera for inclusion on this presigious all-time team is two-fold: Players must have played for the Steelers and they must have the most interesting name at their position (“interesting” could be either a strange and wonderful name or simply a name that’s just so stinkin fun to say). For a fun time say each of these players names in your head in the voice of Myron Cope. Hmmm..HA.

Chuck, Steelady…good names! Those would all be great additions, I wish I had a bigger roster to fill out. We’ll make the comments the honorable mentions.
I actually had Plaxico on the list for a while but then bumped him in favor of Louis Lipps. As a kid I just loved that a pro football player was named “lipps”.

What about Whizzer White and Bam Morris?

Totally…I remember when I thought of making the list I would definitely include Byron “Whizzer” White. Somehow when it came time to put the list together, he sliped my mind…I think he might of trumped Frenchy or I may have felt the pressure to create another RB slot.
If you haven’t noticed there are a TON of Steelers running backs with GREAT names.

oh…and for the all-time worst Steelers name ever…
Steely McBeam.
This might be the first and only reference to him on this blog. I think if I don’t acknowledge his existence maybe, just maybe he won’t really exist.
